It is every youth's dream to join the Indian Army. If such passion comes hereditary, the passion converts into the determination. The Ministry of Defense has officially approved the permanent commission of women officers in the Indian Army. Women are also joining the army in a big way and are sacrificing themselves in the service of the nation.
Girdhari Lal, a resident of Panchauri in Udhampur, himself is retired from the Indian Army. Seeing the service and loyalty of the father towards the country, both his son and daughter became determined to leave the profession journey of their choice and join the Indian Army. Girdhari Lal joined the 6th Battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles on 03 Nov 1988. He retired on 28 Feb 2005 after serving the nation for 17 years. Both his children, a daughter - Shabnam and a son- Siddhant, did their studies from the Army School in Udhampur. Siddhant was interested in sports from the very beginning, while his daughter Shabnam was inclined towards art and used to do painting. Both of them decided to join the army in view of their father's service to the country. Both had the passion to serve the country.
Both of his kids have added to the honor of the family and their society by joining the army and have paved the way for women also to join the army. Siddhant joined Indian Army through 10+2 Technical Entry Scheme and was commissioned from OTA Gaya on 09 December 2018. He was commissioned into 120 Engineering Residents and is currently posted in Pune. Also, Lieutenant Shabnam Luna has recently been commissioned from OTA Chennai on 29 May 2021 for 203 Engineering Regt which is in West Bengal. Both the children kept up their passion to join the army and also fulfilled their father's dream.
