A Delhi man threw a shoe at Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis while he was addressing the gathering at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday. The shoe, however, missed Fadnavis, and later the man was whisked away by police.
The Maharashtra Chief Minister was addressing the gathering in New Delhi where social activist Anna Hazare was on a hunger strike since March 23. Anna ended the hunger strike on Thursday, after 7 days, after meeting Fadnavis and Union Minister of State for Agriculture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
Singh was also present on the stage at the time when shoe was hurled at Fadnavis. Anna’s doctor had said on Wednesday that his blood pressure was high and sugar levels dipped low which made him feel tired and exhausted. Anna had lost certain kilos because of the strike.

Anna launched an indefinite hunger strike against the Centre demanding the setting up of Lokpal.

Anna said, “They (government) have assured us that they will make the appointments as soon as possible. I will see till August and we will begin again in September. It should be done within a time frame. ((Though Maharashtra) Chief Minister (Devendra) Fadnavis has said that it will not even take six months, we will see. The government and the public are not separate. The government’s job is to do what is good for the people and the country. Things should not come to such a pass that protests are needed.”
Anna had sat on a similar hunger strike in 2011 to demand the then UPA government for setting up a Lokpal to investigate corruption and the cases related to it.
