A journalist working with Hindi news channel Sahara Samay was shot at by unknown assailants at his residence in Ghaziabad on Sunday, police said.

The journalist, identified as Anuj Chaudhary, was critically injured and was admitted to the Yashoda Hospital in the city, said the UP police.

The UP police said that four to five unidentified criminals, riding two-wheelers, went to Chaudhary’s house in Rajapur locality at around 6:15 PM. They fired six shots at Chaudhary, who was standing at the entrance of the house.

The police said that two bullets hit Chaudhary in the abdomen, while two hit him in the right arm. The assailants left the spot immediately, after which Chaudhary was rushed to the Yashoda Hospital by neighbours.

The doctors attending Chaudhary said that his condition was ‘critical’ and had been taken for surgery.

“We are collecting closed-circuit television footage from the area. A team will be formed to arrest the culprits,” said Akash Tomar, Superintendent of Police (SP) City.

The Rajapur area comes under the Kavi Nagar police station’s jurisdiction.
