An Army jawan was martyred and two terrorists were killed in an encounter between security forces and terrorists at the Bijbehara area in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning, the police said. Both the terrorists belonged to Jaish-e-Mohammed, according to reports. In this pre-dawn attack, the second encounter in less than 24 hours in the area, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation based on credible inputs. Weapons and warlike stores recovered from the terrorists.
One security force jawan was injured in the gunbattle, he said adding that he succumbed at a hospital. The exchange of fire was going on when last reports came in, he said.
In an encounter on Monday in Anantnag, a terrorist was gunned down and an Army Major succumbed to his injuries in an encounter that broke out in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district early Monday morning. Another officer and two more jawans belonging to the 19 Rashtriya Rifles, who recieved injuries during the gunfight, are undergoing medical treatment. The area has been cordoned off in the view of ongoing encounter between the ultras and forces. The exchange of fire was underway when the last reports came in.
The terrorists also targeted an Army patrol unit with a vehicle fitted with an improvised explosive device in Pulwama district Monday. As many as nine jawans and two civilians were injured in the blast. They are recuperating at a hospital. The site of the blast was 27 km from the area where a convoy of vehicles carrying CRPF personnel was attacked by a suicide bomber on February 14 in which 40 jawans were killed.
