Army Major Nikhil Rai Handa, who was sent to four days police custody by a Delhi Court, had made 3,300 phone calls to Major Amit Dwivedi’s wife Shialja, whom he allegedly killed in ‘obsession’, investigators of the murder case said on Monday.

“Their phone call records showed 3,300 phone calls and 1,500 text messages exchanged between the two since January, most of which were from Handa’s side,” said one of the investigators of the case.

The body of Shailja Dwivedi, the 35-year-old wife former model, was found from Delhi’s Cantonment area on Saturday. Police said her throat was slit and face was run over by a car to make the incident look like an accident.

During the interrogation, Major Handa, however, claimed that it was not him but the victim who was obsessed with him. He said that she was forcing him to marry her.

The police rebutted Handa’s claim and said that he was still thinking that he could get away with this crime.

“Shailza is not there to defend herself and Handa could be making outrageous claims to save himself,” said the officer, maintaining the police’s version that it was Handa who was pursuing Shailza against her wishes.

A day after arresting Major Handa, the police also claimed that the murder of Shialja was pre-planned and not like an incident that happened in heat of the moment.

“The presence of one or two knives in the Honda City car of the accused suggests that it was not a crime that was committed at the spur of the moment,” HT quoted Madhup Tewari, joint commissioner of police (western range) as saying.

Earlier on Monday, police produced Major Handa before a Delhi Court, which sent him on four days judicial custody.
