At least four soldiers, including an Army Major, were killed in a gun battle with a group of terrorists trying to infiltrate from Gurez in north Kashmir on Monday. The infiltration bid, however, was foiled by the security forces and two terrorists were also killed, the Army said in a statement.
The officials said that the bodies of two militants could be seen from a distance while two more were believed to had been killed. The reinforcements of the Army were rushed to the encounter site.

The encounter between the Indian Army's patrolling party and the infiltrating group of terrorists took place at Govind Nallah in Gurez sector of Bandipore district.
According to initial reports, eight terrorists were trying to infiltrate into the Indian side of the border. Four of the terrorists fled back to Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, while four were believed to be dead.

Meanwhile, the deceased Indian Army soldiers were identified as Major KP Rane, Hawaldars Jamie Singh and Vikramjeet and rifleman Mandeep.
