An Indian Army Major officer lost his life while defusing an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), which had been planted by terrorists, in Nowshera sector in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Saturday. The officer was from the Corps of Engineers. The IED was planted 1.5 km inside the Line of Control in the Nowshera sector.

The incident took place two days after 40 CRPF personnel were killed and five injured in one of the deadliest terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, by a Jaish-e-Mohammed suicide bomber in South Kashmir's Pulwama district. Massive protests and candlelight marches were held on Friday in different parts of the country against the attack and curfew was imposed in Jammu city following violence during demonstrations there.Â
