Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday underwent a series of medical tests at All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) ahead of his kidney transplant surgery on Sunday evening.

The 65-year-old Jaitley was admitted in the hospital on Friday evening and was kept under observation.

A senior AIIMS doctor told News Nation that a kidney patient is to be kept under one-day observation. “It is a routine medical procedure. He will undergo kidney transplant surgery on Sunday,” the doctor said.

Sources added that Jaitley will be operated by nephrologist Dr Sandeep Guleria from Apollo hospital and AIIMS director Randeep Guleria.

According to AIIMS doctors, Jaitley will be under doctor’s vigil for at least 10 days after the surgery.

Jaitley had to cancel his London visit next week for the annual economic dialogue.

The minister in 2015 had underwent a gastric bypass weight loss surgery.
