Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday dismissed Subramanian Swamy’s attack on Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanian and strongly defended him saying the government has full confidence in him and his advice is of “great value” to it.
"Well, the government has full confidence in CEA Arvind Subramanian. His advice to government from time to time has been of great value,” said Jaitley. “Politicians should be disciplined in making attacks on officials whose offices constrain them from responding,” he added.
After demanding Raghuram Rajan’s removal as the RBI Governor, Swamy now trains his guns at Arvind.
"Sack him!!!" the 76-year-old politician tweeted, leaving infinite inferences behind for people to speculate over this tweet. Finance Minister Jaitley who addressed reporters along with Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the government has full confidence in Mr Subramanian as Chief Economic Adviser and cautioned against the trend of attacking persons whose office and discipline constrain them from responding to baseless charges. Meanwhile Prasad also defended Fin Min and said that his integrity was impeccable.
Swamy’s attack comes amid the uncertainty over who would take over as the next RBI Governor after Rajan’s exit when his term expires in the month of September. The CEA is seen among one of the contenders for the post.
