Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday successfully underwent a kidney transplant operation at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), according to an official at the leading health institute. Both the donor and the recipient are recovering well, the official informed.
Arun Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS on Saturday and was taken for operation at 8 am on Monday, a senior official told PTI.
“Union Minister Jaitley underwent a renal transplant today. The surgery has been successful. Both the donor and the recipient are stable and recovering well,†a senior AIIMS official told the news agency.
Jaitley, 65, has been undergoing dialysis for the last one month.
Sources told PTI that nephrologist Dr Sandeep Guleria from Apollo Hospital was one of the doctors, who performed the transplant on Jaitley. Â Dr Sandeep is the brother of AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria, who is a family friend of Arun Jaitley.
The minister confirmed that he was being treated for kidney-related problems on April 5 and said that he was working from a controlled environment at home.
I am being treated for kidney related problems & certain infections that I have contracted. I am therefore currently working from controlled environment at home. The future course of my treatment would be determined by the doctors treating me.

Arun Jaitley had undergone a bariatric surgery to treat weight gain caused due to a long-standing diabetic condition. Â The surgery was first conducted in September 2014 at Max Hospital but Jaitley was later transferred to AIIMS because of some complications. Â
