The death of Rohith Vemula, who was banned from the hostel, sparked protests on Monday. Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya has been accused of a role in the suicide and has been blamed for interfering in the university.
Allegations were labelled against Dattatreya that he aided Rohith’s suicide with his letter to Education Minister Smriti Irani in August. However, the minister has rubbished the allegeations.
Referring to Rohith and other students who had protested in August against the execution of 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon, Dattatreya had written that the university had become a "den of casteist, extremist and anti-national politics."
