Assam police have arrested a self-styled godman who claimed to cure women with his magical hugs and smooches from Morigaon district of the state.

Ram Prakash Chauhan, who is known as “kissing baba” was arrested from Morigaon’s Bhoraltup village on August 22, according to ANI.

Chauhan claimed that he was blessed with “supernatural powers” by Lord Vishnu. He used to kiss and hug women on the pretext of curing their physical and psychological problems.

The 'godman' reportedly started this “treatment” a month ago and had earned a fine reputation among the villagers in a short span. However, it was probably a ploy to exploit superstitious women of the village and nearby rural areas.

The police were also interrogating his mother, who had allegedly helped his son by spreading rumours about his “curing” powers. The Morigaon district, where Chauhan was fooling villagers, has a lower literacy rate.
