Former Prime Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s ashes were immersed in the Ganga in Haridwar on Sunday. BJP president Amit Shah was present during the immersion as he watched Vajpayee’s daughter Namita Bhattacharya pouring the ashes into the Ganga River at Har Ki Pauri Ghat with folded hands.
Apart from Shah, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh was also present.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee breathed his last on August 16 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi at the age of 93.
Vajpayee, a gifted poet, and splendid orator, received full state honours at the Rashtriya Smrithi Sthal.

India tested its nuclear devices in the Pokhran range in 1999 under the leadership of Vajpayee and made a historic bus trip to Pakistan a year later to meet then Pakistan supremo Nawaz Sharif.
The three-time Prime Minister Vajpayee received the highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna in 2015.
