Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s ashes would be immersed at Gangasagar, the confluence of the Ganges in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, and four others rivers in the state on Thursday, according to official sources.
“The ‘asthi kalash’ was brought to Kolkata today (Wednesday) by state BJP president Dilip Ghosh and will be taken to Gangasagar tomorrow (Thursday) where it will be immersed as part of the party’s country-wide programme,” a party spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said that the contents of the main kalash (urn) would be divided into four other urns, adding the main urn would be immersed at Gangasagar.
“The main urn will be immersed at Gangasagar and the four other urns will be taken to north Bengal, Farakka, Bankura and Nabadwip,” the spokesperson added.

The BJP had decided to take out ‘asthi kalash yatras’ in all districts and immerse the Atal Bihari Vajpayee's ashes in rivers across the country.
“The people of these areas too want to pay their respects to Vajpayeeji so it will be taken there and immersed in rivers there,” PTI quoted West Bengal BJP unit vice-president Jaiprakash Majumdar as saying.
