Shiv Sena attacks BJP over Ayodhya Ram Temple in 'Saamana' editorial

Mumbai:

Targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for failure to fulfil the promise of building a Ram Temple in Ayodhya, its ally Shiv Sena said that the party would be called a “liar” and be ousted from power. In its mouthpiece, Saamnaa, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena has accused the BJP of delaying the construction of the temple.

“The BJP is in power at the Centre and in many states. It can easily go for the construction of Ram temple, otherwise, it would be considered a liar and get thrown out of power,” the Sena said in an editorial in party mouthpiece Saamana.

It also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not doing much for the “Hindu sentiments” and does not utter a word about the temple construction and merely gives slogans of “Jai Shriram”.

It pointed that during the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, BJP had put forth the construction of the temple as a major poll promise but just after winning, it has fallen back on its words and has started harassing those who speak for it.

Mahant Paramhans Das, who was on hunger strike over the demand for Ram temple construction was picked up by police and taken to hospital on health grounds, it said. Around three decades ago, a large number of devotees of Lord Ram were killed in police firing, the editorial read. “The BJP gained momentum since then and now has a strong political mandate. (Lord) Ram brought ‘achche din’ for the BJP but the God himself is in exile,” the Marathi daily said. The BJP’s stance that the fate of temple construction will be decided in the Supreme Court is hypocrisy, the Sena said.
