Senior Samajwadi Party leader and Rampur MP Azam Khan, his wife Tanzeem Fatima and son Abdullah Azam were sent to seven days judicial custody after they surrendered in the district court on Wednesday. The next hearing of the case will be on March 2.
This comes a day after local MP-MLA court in Rampur had ordered attachments of the properties of Azam Khan, Tanzeen Fatima, and Abdullah Azam after non-bailable warrants were issued against them in one of the cases and they still refused to appear in court.
It is to be noted that Azam Khan and his family had been ignoring summons by the courts in various cases lodged against them as a result of which warrants were issued against them.
Azam Khan had made several attempts to get anticipatory bail but his request was denied by the court.
On February 14, Allahabad High Court dismissed a plea Azam Khan seeking quashing of a chargesheet indicting him along with his legislator wife and ex-MLA son for allegedly committing forgery in securing a fake birth certificate for the latter.
