Azam Khan takes a dig at Vajpayee's Asthi Kalash Yatra, says 'would like to die today to get so much respect'

New Delhi:

Samajwadi Party leader and former Cabinet minister Azam Khan on Sunday sparked a fresh controversy after he took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government over former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's Asthi Kalash Yatra across the country. In a veiled attack to the BJP government, the Samajwadi Party leader said, "If I somehow get to know that after death so much respect will be accorded to me then I would like to die today itself".

The Saffron party has decided to take out yatras with urns carrying ashes of Vajpayee in all districts and immerse those in rivers across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with BJP chief Amit Shah, handed over the ashes of the late BJP stalwart to the party's state unit presidents.

The BJP said since all party workers and people across the country want to pay tributes to Vajpayee, it has decided to take out 'Asthi Kalash Yatras' in all states.

Vajpayee, who was one of the tallest leaders and an orator par excellence, breathed his last at Delhi AIIMS on August 16, 2018. He had been battling kidney tract infection, urinary tract infection, and low urine output and chest congestion since June 11. He was 93.
