Khandwa:

At a time when long queues to withdraw money have become the order of the day across the country, a bank manager in Khandwa went to hospital and personally handed over cash to an ailing customer who needed it urgently.

One Chhagan Lal (70), a retired railway employee, was admitted to a private hospital after he fell and broke his hip bone at home.

Doctors said he needed immediate surgery which would cost Rs 25,000, his wife Nirmala said.

The family however did not have much cash, as the withdrawal from ATM is limited to Rs 2,000 per day.

Lal's family members apprised Pradip Yadav, manager of local branch of Bank of Maharashtra, about their predicament.

Yadav wasted no time in going to the hospital himself and handing over the cash to Lal on Friday evening.

He came to the rescue like an angel, Nirmala told reporters. Yadav said he was overwhelmed to have helped someone in need.
