Two sisters suffered critical burn injuries on Friday after unidentified persons sprinkled petrol and set them on fire while they were sleeping inside their house at Nawabganj area, police said.
The incident took place in the early hours in Deoria Jahangir village, they said.
The assailants scaled the boundary wall to enter the house’s premises, the police said, adding the victim’s brother and father were asleep in another room.
The teenagers, aged 13 and 19 years, were rushed to a hospital where their condition was stated as critical. Doctors said that they had suffered 60-70 per cent burns, they said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Joginder Singh said that an FIR has been registered in the matter against unidentified persons and the case is being investigated.
