Bengaluru: Predawn car race by teens kills 1, parents arrested

A high-speed race at predawn on Hosur Road Elevated Expressway in Southeast Bengaluru turned fatal for a 17-year-old boy after his car crashed with a mini-truck and two cars driven by his friends on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Arfhan Salim, 17-year-old, a student of a private college and a resident of HSR layout.

Abhishek Goyal, Deputy commissioner police (traffic-east) talking to the media said, “The accident occurred around 3am on Sunday morning. The three boys were driving above the speed of 150 kilometers per hours. The boys belong from affluent families and all are minors.”

The DCP added one boy was killed, while two of his friends survived the fatal accident without any injuries.

According to a police official who had rushed to the incident site told the media that Salim was beheaded after the sedan he was driving hit the barricades.

He added Salim lost his controls over the wheels as his car got down the ramp and entered the Hosur road. “His car banged the barricades and his head got severed while his body remained in the car.”

Two of his friends who were participating in the predawn race have been identified as Srinivas G. 16-year-old and Anirudh.

A senior police official told the media that police have registered case against the three boys and their fathers for allowing minors to drive their vehicles.

“We have booked the minors for causing death due to negligence and have arrested their parents,” said Abhishek Goyal.
