Eight people were declared dead after a boat carrying them capsized in the Kosi river near Nagra Zonia Tola under Naugacchiya police station area in Bihar on Sunday.

Seven people were rescued by the locals from the scene.

Some people were returning after marriage function from Andhri Bind Toli from across the Kosi river when their boat overturned midstream near Nagra Zonia Tola, the police said.

"Condition of some of those rescued was stated to be serious and had been rushed to a local hospital", police said, adding that local divers had been brought into service to find the missing children.

A total of 15 people were onboard when the boat overturned and out of them seven were rescued by the locals while eight others were not found, police added.
