BHU eve-teasing: Varsity administration gets strict, suspends accused student

The administration of Banaras Hindu University on Thursday suspended the student who eve-teased and beaten a girl in the varsity campus.

Earlier on Thursday, a girl alleged that she was eve teased and beaten by a postgraduate student in the university premises.

The victim has lodged a complaint with the Lanka police station.

“We have arrested the accused student,” said a senior police officer of Lanka police station.

He added that the victim is married and pursuing her masters in Social Science in BHU.

The police officer told News Nation that the victim told them that the accused, Shitla Prasad Gaur. He is also pursuing masters in the university.

Police have registered an FIR under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 354 B — Any man who assaults any woman or abet such an act with the intention of disrobing her, 504 — intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace, 506 — threat to cause death or grievous hurt, 427 — cause loss or damage to the amount of Rs 50 or upwards, 323 — voluntarily cause hurt.
