India's First Illegal Immigrant Detention Centre Comes Up in Assam

For the first time in history of independent India, the government is building detention centres for illegal immigrants. A direct fallout of the NRC final list, which was published on August 31st, the government is planning to construct 10 such detention camps in Assam. Now, several reports have come out in public about one such detention centre that is being constructed in Goalpara district, about 150 km from Assam capital city Guwahati. Built at cost of Rs 46 crore, the construction began of the camp began last year. Due to heavy rains and floods, the deadline of completion has been pushed till December. Read More…

Gandhi Statue Vandalised At College In Uttar Pradesh's Jalaun

A Gandhi statue was found vandalised at Sri Gandhi Inter College in Uttar Pradesh's Jalaun, police said on Friday. An FIR has been registered against unidentified persons after the matter was reported by the Principal of the Gandhi Inter College, Orai, Ravi Kumar, on Friday morning, police said. Locals and political parties reached the spot and protested against the vandalism demanding immediate action in the matter. Read More…

Taliban Negotiating Team Arrives In Moscow Days After Trump Says Talks 'Dead'

Days after US President Donald Trump announced that peace negotiations with Taliban are dead the insurgent group’s negotiating team arrived in the Russian capital on Friday. The team led by Mullah Sher Mohammad Stanikzai marked an important development as it was Taliban’s first international visit following the collapse of talks with Washington. Moscow has twice this year hosted meetings between the Taliban and prominent Afghan personalities. Read More…

European Powers Call On Iran To Cooperate With UN Nuclear Watchdog

European powers called on Iran to cooperate with the UN's nuclear watchdog the IAEA. This came after Tehran warned that undue pressure from the US and Israel could jeopardise the agency's activities in Iran. "Strongly urge Iran to reverse all activities that are inconsistent with its commitments" under the 2015 deal on its nuclear programme and "to cooperate with the IAEA on all relevant matters, including safeguards issues," Britain, France, Germany and the EU's foreign policy chief in a joint statement said. Sri Lankan Team Will Come, No Negative Feedback From Its Board: PCB

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Ehsan Mani said on Friday that the board is still hopeful of hosting Sri Lanka for a limited-overs tour this month. Mani said that there has been no negative feedback from the Sri Lankan Cricket Board. “Discussions are going on and there has been no negative feedback from Cricket Sri Lanka.
