In an employee-friendly move, the Bihar government on Saturday decided to grant facility of reservation in promotions to the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) personnel in its service.
"Bihar Government to grant reservation in promotions to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes personnel," the news agency ANI reported.
The development came after the Supreme Court on May 17 and June 6 approved a special writ petition for effecting such reservation in promotions.

The Nitish Kumar government on Saturday took the decision following an advice received from the Union Personnel and Training Department in the light of the recommendations made by a high-level committee of state government officials, set up for the purpose and legal advice obtained on it, an official notification read.
The final decision, however, would be subject to further orders from the apex court, the notifications added.
