Bihar: Massive flood engulfs 14 districts; 72 deaths reported, 73 lakh people affected

Massive flood has engulfed areas in 14 districts of Bihar. As the days are passing, situation is worsening with waters encroaching new areas consistently. The number of deceased is also increasing day by day. So far, the number of deaths have reached 72 in Bihar.

Massive flood has engulfed areas in 14 districts of Bihar. As the days are passing, situation is worsening with waters encroaching new areas consistently. The number of deceased is also increasing day by day. So far, the number of deaths have reached 72 in Bihar.

As per reports, almost 73 lakh polulation has been affected by flood. Amidst government’s claims to provide help to affected people, there are many areas where proper help has not been extended.

According to emergency control room in Patna, flood waters have entered Purnia, Kishanganj, Araria, Katihar, Madhepura, Supaul, East Champaran, West Champaran, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Sheohar Muzaffarpur and Gopalganj.

As per government in Bihar, 23 NDRF teams are working and four more to be stationed soon.

“23 teams already working, 4 more teams will join in soon and will be stationed in Motihari, Bettiah, Khagaria, Gopalganj. There is embankment breach in Gopalganj, water entered Barauli. We have evacuated 14,500 people, 13 pregnant ladies too,” said Vijay Sinha, NDRF.

Heavy rains has caused flood situation in Bihar. It exacerbated after Nepal released waters into Indian planes. Many rivers are flowing above the danger mark in Bihar. 

An official of NDRF informed that rescue works are implemented at war footing. Public kitchens have been arranged in areas to feed people. He added that almost 2.74 lakh people have been rescued to safe places so far and 504 relief camps have been opened which is giving shelter to 1.16 lakh people.
