Continuing his scathing attack on Pakistan and reiterating India’s stance that terrorism and talks can’t go hand in hand, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Sunday said, “We've given a clear message to Pakistan. The government's policy is clear that Pakistan has to prove with their actions that they aren't promoting terrorism.” He also said to news agency ANI, “Surgical strike is a weapon of surprise. Let it remain a surprise,” on being asked if the Army would carry out another operation?

On the cancellation of foreign minister-level talks between both the countries been called off, General Rawat said, “They (Pakistan) keep saying that they won't let their soil be used for terrorist activities against other nation. But we can see that terrorist activities are taking place & terrorists are coming from across the border.”

On being asked if only the government should decide if such talks should take place or not, the Army Chief said, “Only the government can decide if talks should be held in such an environment and I think govt has taken the right decision that terrorism & peace talks cannot be held together.”

When asked to comment on BSF soldier Narendra Singh’s throat slit by Pakistani troops near the international border in Jammu, he said, “Pakistan wants these types of trouble (violence) to continue in Kashmir. They want that peace shouldn't return in this area. They're trying to radicalise the youth of Kashmir. Pakistan has decided to bleed India with a thousand cuts. They have been carrying out barbaric acts and Pakistan Army is used to doing this. It is not the first time that they have done it.”

“It's not that India and Pakistan Army went together. So any kind of joint activity which is being carried out in a multinational type of environment, most of these countries wanted India to participate,” said the Army Chief on the military exercise at the SCO Summit recently.

On Saturday, General Rawat had reacted sharply to Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s tweet after India called off the meeting between Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

ANI quoted General Rawat as saying, “I think our government's policy has been quite clear and concise. We've made no bones about the fact that talks and terrorism can't go hand in hand. Pakistan needs to curb the menace of terrorism.”
