The Bharatiya Janta Party who showered lavish praises on Vice President Hamid Ansari for upholding constitutional norms inside the Rajya Sabha has now attacked him outside for his “Muslim unease” remark.

BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain slammed outgoing Vice President Hamid Ansari saying India is the best country for Muslims to live and Hindus are their best friend.

“No better country than India for Muslims and no better friend than Hindus,” Shahnawaz Hussain told ANI.

Another BJP leader and Party’s national general secretary Kailash Vijayavargiya accused him of making a political statement.

"He couldn't talk like this before but now he is outgoing, in search of a political role he is making such statements that are inappropriate for a person at such a position," NDTV reported Kailash Vijayavargiya as saying.

BJP Mahila Morcha national executive member Priti Gandhi accused him of having an agenda.

“For 10yrs my Hindu majority nation accepted you with open arms, placed you at the pinnacle of power & you still feel uneasy? Agenda kya hai? (What is the agenda?),” she said in a tweet.

Hamid Ansari was India’s 13th Vice President. He served as Rajya Sabha Chairman for 10 years from 2007 to 2017. After Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Ansari was the first person to be re-elected as India’s Vice President.

He was succeeded by BJP leader and former Rural Development minister Venkaiah Naidu. Naidu will take oath on Friday.
