New Delhi:

Ahead of the assembly polls at the year-end, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madhya Pradesh has collected data on temples, Hindu priests, and mutts in the state. While the purpose of the exercise is unclear, the BJP is seeking a record fourth term in office in the state.

The BJP carried out the data collection drive following an August opinion poll that indicated tough battle for the party in the upcoming polls.

“Yes, we have collected data on temples, mutts along with their priests and sadhus (ascetics),” state BJP spokesman Rajnish Agrawal said Friday.

The BJP has also collected information on activists, social organisations and influential people of the state from the party’s booth-level teams, Agrawal said. He, however, declined to reveal what the party is going to do with the collected information.
