Giving fodder to the opposition parties, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker Pratap Simha compared Gurmehar Kaur, daughter of Kargil martyr and a student of Ramjas College, with fugitive and India’s most wanted underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
A clash had taken place between the students and police personnel on February 15 in the North campus of the Delhi University where an involvement of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of BJP, triggered a row.
Even, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, raised question, saying that who is polluting this young girl’s mind. He wrote on social media that Armed forces can prevent a war, but a weak was always invaded.
He tweeted,” Who's polluting this young girl's mind? A strong Arm Force prevents a war. India never attacked anyone but a weak India was always invaded.”

On the other hand, Gurmehar Kaur alleged that she has been receiving rape threats since her social media post went viral. She said, “Several well-known personalities are questioning my nationalism. The do not know the meaning of patriotism. This is not a political movement, but it belongs to the students so our campuses should remain safe from these pro-violence elements. You cannot give threat to women irrespective of enjoying the patronage of any political outfit.”
The comparison drew flak from the political parties who dubbed it as hooliganism of the saffron party.
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal trained gun at it bete noire BJP, saying that this is goondanism of the saffron party and it would destroy the nation.
Kejriwal tweeted,” Just listen to this. THIS is BJP. They will destroy our country. Everyone must rise against their goondaism.”
Intervening in the matter, DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal asked Delhi police to take action against boys who have given rape threats to Gurmehar Kaur.
"Police must take action against those boys giving rape threats to Gurmehar Kaur and set an example," DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal said.
ON Sunday, former Indian cricketer Virendra Sehwag said: “Bat me hai Dum! #BharatJaisiJagahNahi.” The cricketer’s reaction clearly shows that which side he batted for. He was seen standing with placard which read," I did not score two triple centuries. my bat did."

Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda applauded Sehwag for his comment. He came out in support of Sehwag and questioned Twitteratis, saying that how the former player has backed violence.

24-year-old Kaur, daughter of Kargil martyr CaptainMandeep Singh and a Delhi University student, had started a social media campaign "I am not afraid of ABVP" following the violence at Ramjas college. Her campaign has gone viral and received support from students across various universities.
