All Members of Parliament of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government have decided not to take salary and allowances for the last 23 days of the Budget session, Union Minister Ananth Kumar said on Wednesday.
“Since the Parliament hasn’t been functional, the Members of Parliament have no right to take people’s money,” Kumar said to media in a press briefing.
“BJP-NDA MPs have decided not to take salary for the 23 days as Parliament has not been functional. The money given to us to serve the people and when we are not able to do so we have no right to take people’s money,” Kumar added.
Attacking the Congress, Kumar further added that Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha did not function only because of Congress’ undemocratic politics.
The Lok Sabha has seen disruptions on a daily basis since March 5.
During the Budget session of Parliament no major Bill has been cleared except for the Union Budget. The important bills pending at the Parliament during the session are Triple Talaq Bill, National Medical Commission Bill, 2017 and Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016.
