New Delhi:

Madhya Pradesh BJP MLA Panna Lal Shakya, who questioned Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma's patriotism for marrying outside India, has sparked another controversy by linking sexual violence against women with number of boyfriend they have.

"Why do girls make boyfriends? If they stop doing this, the atrocities against them will stop," Shakya said during an address on Saturday.

"A TV channel recently asked for my comment on atrocities against women in Madhya Pradesh. I told them what I told you just now," he added.

Rubbishing the reports of rising violence against women, Shakya said, Indians worship women four times in a year so how can they accept that they are facing violence.

"Hamare desh mein mahilaon ki pooja 4 baar hoti hai hum kaise maan lein ki atyachaar ho raha hai? Aankde kuch bhi batate hain. Us kram mein humne kaha ki paashchatya sanskriti se door rehna chahiye. Na girlfriend banana chahiye na boyfriend," ANI quoted Shakya.

Addressing the students at a Post Graduate College, Panna Lal advised girls to not have boyfriends as it would comparatively decrease the number of rape cases in our country. He also suggested boys to avoid making girlfriends too.

Slamming the tradition of celebrating International Women's Day in our nation Panna Lal said, Indians should stick to their own roots rather than trying to follow the western culture.

"In Indian culture, we celebrate women's day 4 times a year in the form of Navratra. Celebrating one day as women's day is not in our culture," Shakya said.

Shakya was speaking at an event organised by a government college in Madhya Pradesh's Guna. The event was organised in order to distribute mobile phones among the students.

Last year in December, the Guna Legislator questioned the patriotism of Virat Kohli for preferring Italy over India to get married to lady love Anushka Sharma.

"He earned here and spent billions in Italy. Kohli has no respect for the country. His act proves he is not a patriot. Is Hindustan untouchable," the BJP MLA was quoted.
