New Delhi:

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Meenakshi Lekhi on Saturday equated Congress president Rahul Gandhi to a “drunken” man in a village dominated by “Jaats” – a powerful north Indian community.

“Jaaton ke gaon mein jo sabse zyada daaru peeta hai, aur jo sabse zyaada kumzor hota hai vo hi sarpanch ko challenge karta hai, yeh vaisi hi stithi hai, (Only the weakest person who drinks the most dares to challenge the ‘sarpanch’ of jaat majority village. This is that kind of a situation),” ANI quoted Lekhi as saying.

The BJP leader’s shocking remarks came in response to the Congress president open debate challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Reacting to  Gandhi's plan to join RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav’s protest at New Delhi’s historic Jantar Mantar against the mass rape in a government-run shelter home in Bihar’s Muzzafarpur, Lekhi said that women going to the protest won't be safe,

“We know what happens in Rahul Gandhi's protests, even Priyanka Gandhi can't be assured of safety. And now Tejashwi Yadav is too a part of it. No woman will be safe,” she added.

The Congress president is set to join former Bihar deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav’s protest at Jantar Mantar Today (Saturday) seeking justice for the 34 girls raped in the Bihar shelter home.

Thirty-four girls, as young as seven, were drugged, scalded with boiling water, raped and forced to sleep naked in a government-run shelter home in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur. One of the minors was mercilessly beaten to death after she resisted the sexual assault by the owner of the stay home, Brajesh Thakur.

Yadav alleged that the ruling BJP-JD(U) government in Bihar was shielding the accused owner, who has close links with several state cabinet ministers.
