BJP National Executive: We will rule for 50 years, says Amit Shah

After day one of BJP National Executive meeting on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is gearing up to give his valedictory speech on Sunday. The BJP national meeting, which was inaugurated by president Amit Shah, paid rich tributes to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, saying in his death, the country had lost a visionary statesman. The executive also passed a condolence resolution remembering Vajpayee, who had attended its every meeting till failing health confined him to his residence for over a decade, before he died on August 16.

Here are the highlights on BJP National Executive meeting:

#06:10 pm: "We will win 2019 and no one will be able to remove us for 50 years," Mr Prasad quoted BJP chief Amit Shah as saying.

#6:00 pm: "Those who were a failure in government are a failure in opposition," said Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "Our performance of 48 months will be judged against their (Congress') performance of 48 years," Modi said.

# 03:40 pm: 'Congress never gave the respect Sardar Patel deserved': Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who gave Sardar Patel the respect he deserved and the Congress party didn't.

"When PM Modi was the chief minister of Gujarat, he had announced to make the statue of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel which is now going to be completed. On October 31, the world's biggest statue, 'Statue of Unity', will be unveiled on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel," Rupani said.

# 12:22 pm: Political resolution moved by Home Minister Rajnath Singh at BJP's national executive meeting. The resolution praised PM Modi's vision 2022. The resolution also talked about 'new India' and a poverty-free India where no one will be shelterless.

# 10:06 am: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat arrive for BJP National executive meeting.

During his address at the executive meeting, Shah termed the proposed grand alliance of the Opposition as "illusion, eyewash and sham for fulfilling self-interest" adding that the saffron party will return to power with an absolute majority in 2019.

Besides Shah, top party leaders, including PM Modi and the chief ministers of the BJP-ruled states marked their attendance at the BJP National Executive meeting, which is held at Ambedkar International Centre, Delhi.

This is the first BJP national executive meet after Vajpayee's demise.
