Hours after Congress president Rahul Gandhi kick-started election campaign in poll-bound Meghalaya, BJP took jibe on the 47-year-old leader over an alleged Rs 63,000 jacket he worn by him during his visit to the state by saying ‘soot(pun intended!)-boot ki sarkar’.
BJP’s Meghalaya unit shared Rahul Gandhi’s image wearing the jacket on social media. The saffron party tweeted, “So @OfficeOfRG , soot(pun intended!)-boot ki sarkar with ‘black’ money fleeced from Meghalayan State exchequer by rampant corruption? Instead of singing away our woes, you could have given a report card of your inefficient govt in Meghalaya! Your indifference mocks us!”
The tweet made by the BJP referred to the phrase “suit boot ki sarkar” used by the Congress president to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he had worn a suit stripped with his name. Congress, since then in regular occasions uses the phrase the to target BJP.

Rahul Gandhi was seen wearing the jacket while attending a rock concert on Tuesday evening in Meghalaya.

According to tweet made by BJP, the jacket worn by Rahul Gandhi's is a Burberry two-in-one jacket and has been listed on Bloomingdale site at $995 (around Rs 63,000).
Rahul Gandhi later told the media that the jacket was gifted to him in Shillong.
