BJP president Amit Shah on Saturday termed his party’s win in the Himachal Pradesh civic polls as “historic” and said the result reflects the mood of the state and trust of its people in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s politics of development. He also congratulated BJP’s state unit chief Satpal Singh Satti and all the party workers for the win.
The BJP on Saturday emerged as the single largest party, winning 17 out of 34 seats, in the Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) polls, just one short of clear majority. With this win, the hill city is now set to get a mayor from the saffron party for the first time.
“BJP’s victory in Shimla Municipal election is historic. I congratulate Shri @satpalsattibjp and all karyakartas of @BJP4Himachal unit,” Shah tweeted.
“Gratitude to the people of Shimla for their faith in BJP. Result also reflects mood of Himachal and trust in PM Modi’s development politics,” he further added.
The poll verdict to the municipal body assumes significance with the state going for assembly elections next year. The newly elected BJP councillors assembled at the party headquarters at Deep Kamal to celebrate the victory.
