A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker, who was found hanging in West Bengal’s Purulia district on Saturday, was not murdered but committed suicide, according to his autopsy report.
“Five doctors have conducted the post-mortem and concluded that Dulal Kumar died of asphyxia ante-mortem by suicidal hanging,” Purulia SP Aakash Maghariya said in a press conference on Sunday.
On Saturday, the 30-year-old BJP worker from Purulia’s Balarampur was found hanging from an electric pylon. This was the second death of a BJP worker in Purulia district in a span of four days. Earlier on Wednesday, a Dalit BJP worker named Trilochan Mahato was found hanging from a tree in the same district.
The BJP, however, rejected the post-mortem report and termed the deaths “political killings”. The saffron party called a 12-hour shutdown in the area and all roads leading to Kumar’s village were blocked by the police.
“This was a cold-blooded, calculated murder. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) wants to terrorise BJP supporters like Dulal Kumar and Trilochan Mahato, who was found hanging on Wednesday,” NDTV quoted a BJP supporter as saying.
“TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee has already sent out a warning that he would make Purulia opposition free. This is what the TMC has set out to do,” added another BJP worker.
