New Delhi:

Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday lodged an FIR against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Naharkatia police station in Dibrugarh district for her controversial statement on the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The FIR accused her of encouraging ‘hate and tension’ among the existing communities with an aim to disrupt the NRC update exercise.

The complaint was filed by three BJYM workers, Mridul Kalita, Jagdish Singh and Amulya Chengiari.

“The people of Assam have wholeheartedly accepted the final draft of the NRC released on July 30 but some unscrupulous politicians have been trying to disrupt the peaceful process of the NRC which is under the sole supervision of the honourable Supreme Court of India. One such politician Mamata Banerjee, chief minister of West Bengal, is trying to disrupt the peaceful process,” the FIR stated.

Mamata Banerjee is trying to politicise the issue and try to reap benefits out of it. We condemn West Bengal Chief minister for her provocative speeches,” BJYM activist Jagdish Singh said.

“People are being made refugees in their own country. It’s a plan to throw out Bengali speaking people and Biharis,” Mamata Banerjee had said earlier on Tuesday while reacting to the NRC final draft.

The draft saw the exclusion of around 40 lakh names for the list, Banerjee had said.

The BJP are victimising people and it would lead to a civil war and bloodbath, said the West Bengal chief minister on Tuesday.
