Bollywood actor Aditya Pancholi has been sentenced to one year imprisonment in a 12-year-old assault case in Mumbai.
City’s Andheri court also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on the actor. The incident took place in 2005 in which Pancholi was accused of assaulting his neighbour over a parking dispute.
Speaking about the incident, Pancholi denied any wrongdong saying that the complainant used to live in his society as a tenant and he did not know about it.
The complainant had claimed that he had suffered fracture injuries, and had suffered a bleeding nose due to the assault.
Pancholi, on the other hand, says that the claim of the fractured limb and assault was an "afterthought as that was why the case was registered a day later."
Later, Pancholi's lawyers moved the court for bail.
Pancholi said, "It is very harsh sentence. It's not like I was found involved in a terrorist activity or some bomb blast. I will definitely appeal against the order. After being granted bail, Pancholi paid the bail amount of Rs 12,000 and tried to see to it that he could leave the court immediately.
This is not the first time the actor has landed in a controversy. He had been booked for assaulting another neighbour Bhargav Patel in 2013, while there is another case registered against him of assaulting pub bouncers in a drunken state in Juhu in 2015. The brawl that time had been over Pancholi's wanting the DJ to play his favourite Hindi track.
