Telugu poet and activist Varavara Rao and advocate Surendra Gadling, both accused of the Bhima-Koregaon violence case, will be sent back to Yerawada Jail as the Aheri Court has placed them under judicial remand. Rao was arrested in connection with the Bhima-Koregaon violence that erupted in Maharashtra in 2017. Rao is an alleged Maoist sympathiser, poet and journalist from Telangana. Known as a Marxist critic, Rao has written several articles and addressed public gatherings condemning the neoliberal state. He is also considered to be a prolific poet, having published 15 poetry collections of his own.
Rao is also an accused of plotting to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which he and his family have denied vehemently.
