Days after winning three major Hindi heartland states, the Congress party has appointed 10 new national spokespersons. Sources say that new spokespersons have been appointed to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who is trying to corner the Congress over issues like AgustaWestland and others ahead of general elections, slated for next year.

"Congress president Rahul Gandhi has approved the appointment of National Spokespersons of AICC," reads a communique issued by Randeep Singh Surjewala.

Earlier in the day, the Congress president also approved the appointments of Dr Shama Mohammad, Aishwarya Mahadev, Adil Boparai, Aman Pawar, Sanjay Chhokar, Anil Dhantori, Szarita Laitphlang as National Media Panelists of the party.

He also approved the appointment of Mohd. Khan and Manoj Tyagi as National Media Coordinator of the party.

Meanwhile, the Congress accused the government of carrying out a malicious propaganda against the party. Referring to AgustaWestland case accused Christian Michel's statement before his extradition that Indian probe agencies were pressuring him to name a member of the Gandhi family, the Congress alleged it was a "fixed match".
