Army jawan killed as Pakistani forces resort to mortar shelling, firing in J&K;’s Poonch sector

An Indian Army jawan was killed and three others were injured as Pakistani forces resorted to mortar shelling and firing in J&K’s Poonch sector on Monday. The Pakistan army violated the ceasefire and targeted forward posts in the Doda battalion area, they said. In the ceasefire violation, one Army man was killed and three others have suffered injuries, the officials said.

The injured have been hospitalised, they said, adding that troops guarding the border retaliated effectively.

The incident took place days after Army jawan Karamjeet Singh was killed in a ceasefire violation along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district.

Singh, 24, was killed on last Monday. His body, draped in tricolour, was brought to his home in Janer village by army officials on Tuesday. A large number of people paid last respects to him and raised 'Shaheed Karamjitt Amar Rahe' slogans.

His father and elder brother lit the funeral pyre.
