The Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday announced that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s will visit India for an informal summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Chennai from October 11-12. The summit will be held in the coastal town of Mamallapuram.  It said the forthcoming Chennai Informal Summit will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to continue their discussions on overarching issues of bilateral, regional and global importance.

The White House has refused any cooperation by President Donald Trump in the Democrats' impeachment investigation, saying the efforts being made by the opposition is unconstitutional and an attempt to overturn the democratic process. The White House sent a letter to the Democratic leaders in the House of Representatives informing them of the decision of the Trump Administration.

Mumbai: Local Train Catches Fire On Harbour Line At Vashi Station

A local train caught fire on the harbour line at Vashi station in Mumbai on Wednesday. According to Central Railway, heavy smoke was detected in the pantograph after overhead equipment tripped on Harbour line at Vashi station in a down local. A pantograph is an apparatus on the roof of an electric train, tram or electric bus to collect power through contact with an overhead line. Minor flames were seen rising out of the pantograph. However, they were soon extinguished by the railway staff at the station. No injuries were reported.

Global Economic Slowdown Effect ‘More Pronounced’ In India: IMF Chief

International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief, Kristalina Georgieva has said, the global economy is witnessing “synchronized slowdown” and its effect is “more pronounced” like India. Georgieva said slower growth is expected this year in nearly 90% of world economies. "Two years ago, the global economy was in a synchronized upswing. Measured by GDP, nearly 75 per cent of the world was accelerating. The global economy is now in a synchronized slowdown. In 2019, we expect slower growth in nearly 90 per cent of the world," said Georgieva in her first speech as managing director of the International Monetary Fund. Read more...

Karnataka: A raid by City Crime Branch is underway at Parappana Agrahara Central prison in Bengaluru.

No agreements, Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs), joint communique expected to be signed during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to India, since it is an informal meeting.

PM Narendra Modi will hold one-to-one and delegation level talks with the Chinese President. Meeting between them has no specific agenda. Focus of the meeting is on improving people to people contact&on how to maintain peace and tranquility on India-China border.
