Uttarakhand Finance Minister Prakash Pant, who was undergoing cancer treatment in the US, passed away on Wednesday. He was 58. Before going to the US, Pant was undergoing treatment at a hospital at Rohini in New Delhi for a long time and did not campaign for the party in the Lok Sabha elections.
In February, Pant had collapsed when he was presenting the state budget in the Assembly for the year 2019-20.Â
He resumed reading the speech after regaining consciousness but again began feeling uncomfortable.
Pant was extended medical assistance and offered a glass of water. He rested for a while in his chair as Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat finished the rest of his speech.
His brother KC Pant had earlier said the Minister was having some chest problem.
Expressing his condolence on the demise of Pant, Prime Minister Narendra Modi: "His organisational skills helped strengthen the BJP and administrative skills contributed to Uttarakhand’s progress."Â
