New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg and discussed issues on international landscape, BRICS cooperation, and other mutual interests.

“Wide-ranging and productive talks with President Putin. India’s friendship with Russia is deep-rooted and our countries will continue working together in multiple sectors. @KremlinRussia,” Prime Minister Modi said in a tweet.

PM Modi had earlier held informal talks with the Russian president in May in the Black Sea coastal city of Sochi in Russia.

After that both the leaders met at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Qingdao, China in June.

A ‘special privileged strategic partnership’ was elevated between both the countries during the meeting in Sochi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Johannesburg on Wednesday to attend the BRICS Summit themed ‘BRICS in Africa’.

BRICS comprises of five countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – representing above 40 per cent of world population.
