New Delhi:

Nearly three weeks after SHO Subodh Kumar Singh was shot dead in a mob violence over cow carcasses in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr, the murder accused has been arrested from the Bulandshahr-Noida border on Thursday. Bulandshahar's Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhakar Chaudhary said that the accused, identified as Prashant Nutt is being interrogated and confessed of shooting Singh. However, the weapon of the killing, a pistol is yet to be recovered, Chaudhary added.

Besides Natt, the police have identified another accused - Johnny, who is also a native of Bulandshahr. The name of both Natt and Johny were not included in the First Information Report (FIR) lodged in early December, but were identified from the videos of the violence which emerged on social networking sites.

Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh police had named Yogesh Raj, the district convener of Bajrang Dal, as the main conspirator of the Bulanshahr violence. Yogesh who refused in involvement in the case is still on the run.

On December 9, police arrested Army jawan Jitendra Malik aka Jeetu Fauji, another accused in Subodh Kumar Singh's killing. Post that, Fauji had been sent to 4-day judicial custody by a local court in Uttar Pradesh.

On December 3, a mob of some 400 people rampaged through a village in Bulandshahr district apparently after cow carcasses were found in a jungle nearby. During the violence, police inspector Singh and a 20-year-old man died of gunshot wounds.

Singh went for a search operation following specific inputs about stone pelting in the region and fell unconscious after a stone hit his head. While being rushed to the hospital an angry mob again attacked his vehicle. While other policemen in the Jeep fled the spot, Singh was allegedly shot dead by Fauji.
