In a big breakthrough, terror group Hizbul Mujahideen’s 22-year-old commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani was on Friday killed in an encounter with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Here are some facts about Burhan Wani, who was Hijbul Mujahideen’s poster boy:

-Burhan Wani was allegedly the main inspiration for several educated youths in Kashmir who turned into militants in recent months.

-Several video featuring Wani with weapons were circulated on Facebook and WhatsApp. The aim was to recruit young Kashmiri men.

-Wani, who delivered strong speeches, was reportedly an expert in social media.

-He belonged to a rich family in Tral area of south Kashmir.

-Wani's father is a head master at a government school

-He joined the deadly terror group when he was just 15

-Wani was said to be a budding cricketer before becoming a militant

-Wani carried a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head.

-The army allegedly killed one of his brothers in 2015 when he tried to meet Burhan in Tral forests.

-Wani had reportedly never been personally involved in any attacks on security forces. However he had a large following among radicalised young Kashmiris, that made him a big risk.
