The body of 23-year-old Capt Pawan Kumar, who died while fighting militants in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, today reached his native village in this district where his last rites will be conducted.

The last rites of the Captain will be conducted with full military honours at Badhana village in Jind.

Earlier today, a wreath laying ceremony was held at the Indian Air Force base at Pathankot in Punjab, from where the body was flown to his hometown here.

In view of the Jat stir in Haryana, the Army had appealed to the people of Haryana, to extend support in giving a “befitting farewell” to the brave son of the soil.

Kumar, an officer of the elite Para unit who hailed from Jind, was among two army personnel from the unit who lost their lives in the fierce encounter with militants holed up inside a government building in Pampore town.

The young captain of the Special Forces was an inspiring leader who inspite of being injured earlier in an anti-terrorist operation went on to volunteer for more operations.
