In wake of central government’s decision to scrap Article 370 and Article 35A and proposal to separate Jammu & Kashmir from Ladakh, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti has tweeted, “It will have catastrophic consequences for the subcontinent. GOIs intentions are clear. They want the territory of J&K by terrorising it’s people. India has failed Kashmir in keeping its promises.”

She further added, “Today marks the darkest day in Indian democracy. Decision of J&K leadership to reject 2 nation theory in 1947 & align with India has backfired. Unilateral decision of GOI to scrap Article 370 is illegal & unconstitutional which will make India an occupational force in J&K. “

Earlier, proposing to scrap the Article, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, “I am ready for all discussions by the leader of the Opposition, the entire opposition and the members of the ruling party over Kashmir issue. I am ready to answer all questions.”

The proposals come amid the tense troop deployment and lockdown in Jammu and Kashmir over the weekend. On Sunday, authorities of the Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday night imposed the Section-144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which prohibits gathering of more than four people at a time.

Earlier, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu and Kashmir issued a notice to former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti asking her whether she had verbally or otherwise endorsed the recommendations made by some ministers in the PDP-BJP government for appointments in JK Bank.
