CBI constitutes SIT to probe AugustaWestland deal, Vijay Mallya case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has constituted a SIT to probe corruption cases including AugustaWestland deal, which has Congress chief Sonia Gandhi as one of the prime accused, and Vijay Mallya's bank default case.

The move comes after long silence from the Central government over $450 million VVIP chopper scam and several failed attempts to nab Vijay Mallya to recover heavy debts.

While government is making all possible efforts to extradite now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines owner Vijay Mallya, he managed to make an escape from India with a UK visa.

On Wednesday, Union Minister Jayant Sinha had said, “We have declared him (Mallya) a wilful defaulter but we have to go through the legal process with the UK.” Referring to the liquor baron, whose airline owes a consortium of 17 banks some 9,000 Crores in debt, Sinha said, “We can bring him only after getting extradition approval from the UK.”
