Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) a year after a top bureaucrat and his family committed suicide in their flat in East Delhi has claimed that none of its sleuths harassed the Bansals during an investigation into alleged kickback paid to officials.

The CBI in its report says that while the suicide of the Bansal family is "unfortunate", their officers are not to blame.

The senior bureaucrat had named five CBI officials who he claimed in a suicide note of harassing him and his family. He had also alleged that the probing CBI officers had tortured and abused the women in the family. Bansal was Director General in the Corporate Affairs Ministry.

BK Bansal, 59, a senior bureaucrat, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his apartment along with his son in September 2016. Bansal’s wife and daughter had killed themselves in the same flat after he was arrested on charges of accepting bribe from a pharmaceutical company.

The CBI claims that a CCTV footage of Bansal and his mother visiting at least 20 bank lockers just before the suicide suggested unnatural financial activity. The investigative agency also claimed that Bansal had disclosed to tax officers that he had about Rs 2 crores of black money in cash.
